Supply Chain Management Course

Nick Aikawa

The supply chain management course, led by Stephane McShane, offered valuable insight on how to best deal with long lead times by thinking about projects from the end first. By considering the end dates of projects, we can work backward to see when equipment can be ordered appropriately or communicate to clients that set deadlines won’t be met well before construction begins. Delayed shipping timelines we cannot control, but with proper planning and communication we can!

SMACNA Project Management Course

Ben Simon

The SMACNA Project Management Course provided a great basis of knowledge for PMs who have joined the industry and are looking for insight into maximizing their time and effort to improve productivity and communication on projects. The basis of knowledge ranges from process efficiency, communication (both with internal and external clients), workload and time management, financials, and thought-provoking real-world examples of situations in which a Project Manager may have to make/have uncomfortable yet necessary decisions/conversations on a job.

If I had to pick one thing that has stuck with me since completing this course, it would be how to adequately demonstrate value to field personnel as we attempt to continue to innovate processes (both technologically and in fabrication/installation), which starts with ensuring that the real, everyday pitfalls that are experienced are truly heard, observed, and understood in order to provide tangible and beneficial changes to those processes.”

SMACNA Project Management Course

Nate Preece

The SMACNA PM Certificate program was a ten-week course hosted by career construction project management professionals. To summarize, it covered: time management, job cost management, change order management, negotiation skills, the life cycle of estimating, creating alignment between field and office, conflict management, influencing others without authority, construction law, change agility, and wellness/workplace burnout.

My biggest takeaway from this course was that each of us has many ways we can influence our coworkers, and there are a lot of co-workers in our industry!

Many lessons throughout the program taught me what to steer away from, and what to focus on, in my efforts to contribute to my work.
