New Shop Update!

A quick look to see how our shop construction is moving along.

As you all may have heard, we have secured a new home for WAM at 33210 Central Avenue in Union City. We are excited to move in ASAP and I wanted to give you all an update on the status of our renovation.

Phase 1: Shop Build

As of 7/22, we have received our permits for Phase 1. Phase 1 of our move is to relocate our shops at Casey court and 1105 O’Brien Drive. We are on target to be operational by the end of September. Our current status is that we have received our first inspection, installed shop lighting, completed all underground plumbing and are working on structural upgrades for the new 2-story office and breakroom area in the shop.

We have also built the “Great Wall of WAM”.

We are investing in two overhead cranes: one in the piping/plumbing fabrication area and one in the sheet metal area. These additions will help us move our large fabricated skids and load our sheet metal into the space.

We have also purchased new Watts-Mueller CNC piping fabrication equipment to further our automation in our piping shop and increase our capabilities with larger piping fabrication assemblies.

Phase 2: Office Build

We are currently in design and plan to submit our permit drawings on 8/15 for our phase 2 office space. Below are some highlights of items that are part of the build. We have incorporated many of the vision board concepts and feedback from the workspace study into the design.

  • Cutting in windows and skylights for more natural lighting in the rear area.
  • Adding solar to the majority of the roof
  • Exposed ceiling in rear area to highlight mechanical installation and create an open, collaborative environment
  • Expanding the gym area for a large, modern gym with dedicated restrooms, showers, and locker areas
  • Adding a living wall at the entrance
  • Adding WAM DDC controls with energy dashboard at lobby living wall
  • Increased amount of huddle and phones rooms for conference calls to mitigate sound
  • Open central break room area
  • Collaboration areas throughout the office
  • Large training/multipurpose room – March madness ping pong tournament is coming back this March!
  • Golf simulator room
  • Wellness room
  • New security fencing and gates to increase security of the facility
  • Car charging stations
  • Working with building owner to replace gas package units with heat pumps to be all-electric and use solar panels for most of our energy usage

Our current goal is to get everyone moved over here no later than 1/31/23 and we are excited to have a long-term home where we are all under one roof!
