Description of Position
The Director of Operations is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing and optimizing all operational aspects of the company’s mechanical, plumbing, building management controls, and service divisions. This individual ensures alignment of field operations, project management, and quality control with organizational goals. The Director is accountable for operational efficiency, team performance, profitability, and customer satisfaction across all active and future construction and service projects. The Director of Operations is a liaison between the Executive Leadership Team, managers, and staff to facilitate process improvement and problem-solving. Salary Range: $180k – $250k depending on experience
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership
- Lead, Manage, and Accountability for the following:
- Field/Shop Superintendents
- Production Project Management (future)
- Safety
- Fleet (future)
- Facilities (future)
- Support division leaders with the day-to-day operations across all departments: mechanical, plumbing, controls, and service.
- Support shop/field efforts to innovate and improve processes.
- Implement streamlined processes to ensure project timelines, budgets, and quality standards are consistently met.
- Standardize operational workflows and systems to drive consistency, scalability, and profitability
- Drive adoption of lean construction principles and technology for continuous improvement.
- Evaluate and implement automation, prefabrication, and sustainable practices to improve efficiency and competitiveness.
- Strategic Planning & Execution
- Collaborate with executive leadership to define strategic goals and translate them into operational plans.
- Participate in annual planning and budgeting activities for construction and service operations.
- Identify growth opportunities, emerging trends, and resource requirements to support scalability.
- Project Management Support
- Support project managers with complex scheduling, resourcing, and risk mitigation.
- Ensure consistent tracking of job cost performance, change order management, and cash flow.
- Monitor KPIs across projects to ensure milestones and profitability targets are achieved.
- Team Development & Culture
- Mentor management staff including, Project Executives and Department Heads.
- Support the recruitment, development, and retaining of high-performing operational staff including PMs, PEs, and Superintendents.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, caring, safety, collaboration, accountability, innovation and continuous learning.
- Conduct regular reviews and to develop and implement training programs aligned with company standards and market evolution.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Maintain adherence to safety regulations, code compliance, and QA/QC protocols.

- Conduct job audits and support PM and field staff to drive efficiency and quality with a focus on proactive problem solving.
- Vendor & Client Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, general contractors, and key clients.
- Serve as a key escalation point for operational issues, resolving them efficiently and diplomatically.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. As the Director of Operations, you will need to be present at the office 5 days a week. We will have some ability to be flexible with remote work but do need key leaders to be present as developing and sustaining WAM culture is of critical importance.
Travel:
From time to time, we may ask for you to attend industry events, leadership training, and conferences to improve personally.

Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of 10 years of pertinent experience working at companies specializing in any of the MEP trades.
- At least 5 years in a senior leadership or operations management role.
- Proven expertise in managing large-scale projects.
- Knowledge of construction technology platforms (e.g., , Autodesk Construction Cloud, MS Project, ERP systems).
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- PMP, PE, , or equivalent certifications.
- Experience in plan spec, design-build or integrated project delivery (IPD) environments.
- Experience in HCAI vertical market
- Experience working with Stratus
