Description of Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Project Accountant to join our accounting team in the construction industry. This role is responsible for managing customer billing, tracking receivables, and ensuring timely collections while maintaining accurate records and supporting project teams with billing-related needs

Pay Range: $70,000 – $80,000 per year (range is dependent on years of experience)

Task and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit customer invoices, including AIA and progress billings.
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Process payments and apply them accurately to customer accounts.
  • Submitting lien releases and track preliminary notices as required.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of retainage and ensure proper billing.
  • Communicate with project managers and customers to resolve billing discrepancies.
  • Support audits and provide documentation as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Submitting the preliminary requests with CNS and filing the completed preliminary notices.
  • Maintain vendor setup process and provide ACH information on request.
  • Reconcile job costs between Service and Construction jobs.
  • Assist Purchasing Department with material requisitions, vendor quotes, purchase orders, and vendor communications.
  • Assist Accounts Payable with reviewing, processing, and submitting invoices through company systems.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or higher in accounting or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in accounts receivable, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Familiarity with AIA billing, lien laws, and retainage.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Spectrum).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with ERP systems and job costing.
  • Knowledge of California construction billing practices and regulations.
